The emerging challenge environmental impacts on human health

The emerging challenge –environmental impacts on human health

As with previous years, biomedical sciences are our main focus, however this year we want to highlight the importance of the environment in our lives.

We are proud to announce that the University of Cologne will be hosting the next FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE conference from the 23rd-25th of November 2023 in Cologne, Germany. The Scientific Organising Committee joined forces with the Local Organising Committee from Cologne in order to prepare an exciting scientific programme, the Career Day (already a FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE tradition), and a dynamic line-up of outreach activities.

Keep an eye here for the full programme, which will be continuously updated! If you are curious and want to see some sneak-peeks or behind-the-scenes activity, please follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn!

What can you expect from a FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE conference?

FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE conferences stand out because they have been organised by and for young researchers (PhD students and postdocs) from several European institutions. The annual gatherings comprise various parts, the most significant being a scientific symposium, which seeks to explore the latest research and pioneering developments in the molecular life sciences. Coupled with this symposium, a wide range of activities focused on employment opportunities, including a career day, career workshops and a job fair, are also organised. These conferences also seek to engage the public via outreach activities especially tailored to target certain audiences. In addition to the relevance of public engagement, these activities provide an ideal training opportunity for PhD students and postdocs interested in science communication.

Scientific symposium

Scientific symposium

The scientific symposium aims to highlight the most recent advances in biomedical life sciences and to help young scientists broadcast and discuss their latest findings.

Each year, more than 250 participants join in the Scientific Symposium, where keynote speakers give insights into latest developments. ENABLE is more than just a conference. Participants have the opportunity of sharing their science in poster presentations and oral presentations.

Career day

Career day

The career day is one of the core activities of the ENABLE event and participants will have the opportunity to develop their professional future as young scientists.

Participants will have the chance to broaden their horizons and expand their capabilities through three complementary career activities: insightful discussions with experts from different career paths in the career chats section, workshops aimed at building new skills, and an opportunity fair hosting potential job options from the different sectors.

Outreach activities

Outreach activities

One of the main goals of ENABLE is to bring science closer to society through educational online pub talks that will be held by the participants from their homes.

A great variety of outreach activities aimed to general public like Ask the Scientist and a Cross-disciplinary session, as well as activities for primary and high school students will foster the interaction between young scientists and the general public to raise awareness around biomedicine and its impact on healthcare.

Call for host institutions

Do you want to host a FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE event?

FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE are looking for new institutions that would like to host the next ENABLE conferences. The conference will be organised by a committee of young researchers belonging to the 4 ENABLE core institutions plus the ones belonging to the selected host institution (associated institutions). More info on previous ENABLE conference can be found in the Past conferences section.

Application procedure

Institutions interested in hosting an ENABLE conference are requested to submit an application form including all the needed info and complete the budget table. Guide for applicants, application forms and the budget table are available in the call for host institutions section.
