Outreach activities
One of the main goals of ENABLE is to bring science closer to society through a series of educational activities that will be held across Milan.
Our outreach activities will partially take place on the days prior to the symposium (November 15th-18th) and will be tailored specifically towards the general public.
Activities for schools
To give young students a glance into biomedical research, we will invite primary school students to visit our laboratories. The students will get their first-hand experience on the work of a scientist and they will playfully learn about the science.
High school students will have opportunity to dive deeper in biomedical sciences. They will join an interactive tour in the scientific laboratory and at the end they will have a chance to be scientist for one day, by performing some simple experiments such as PCR and Restriction Enzyme Assay. Students will learn how to safely handle lab reagents and instruments and perform basic assays in order to answer to simple biological questions. Being in a research campus, they will have the possibility to ask questions and curiosities about scientific research and career.
Activities for the general public
Cross-disciplinary Session
We will organize a public discussion about Creativity importance in our everyday life and, in particular, how science and creativity are often two sides of the same coin
Is any artistic creation the result of one’s imagination and flair or does it require method and scientific rigor? How much science lies behind the art? And how much fancy and genius behind the science?
Those are the questions we want to discuss together with the general public in a dynamic event with speakers coming from different fields. The final goal of the whole event is of course to offer to people a different point of view on science and on scientist life.
Ask the Scientist
We will bring the community closer to science, by giving them opportunity to interact, in an informal contest, with professional scientists.
During the event people will have the chance to approach the Neuroscience frontiers, from the recent discoveries in the neurogenomics and brain development, to the new biomedical artificial intelligence applications.
At the end of the plenary session, attendees will have opportunity to directly talk with the scientist during speed-dates, as well as during closing aperitif.
Pub Talks
10 minute talks of mind-blowing science in the Bar!
Multiple bars will host a series of pub talks performed by young scientists.
International PhD students and Postdocs taking part in the ENABLE conference will share their work with the citizen of Milan in a short, entertaining and easy-to-grasp manner. The best performances will be chosen by the public and awarded prizes.
Talks will be held in English and Italian language.
