Registration guidelines

Registration fee

The registration fee will be 110€ for Early Birds and 140€ afterward. This fee includes participation in the conference, workshops, career chats, and fair, as well as the dinner with the speakers on Thursday.

Poster and short talk applications

During the event in Milan, we want to give as many participants as possible the chance to present their research to their peers, the invited speakers and the public.

Every participant is expected to submit a scientific abstract of their work (or planned work in the case of first year Ph.D. students) of a maximum of 300 words. During the registration process, you can choose to just present a poster or also apply for a scientific talk. We will then select and notify the speakers in October. All the submitted abstracts will be included in the abstract list that will be available through the conference app.

There will be prizes awarded for the best posters and short talks.

Abstract submission

Abstracts must be submitted in English.

Each registrant can submit only one abstract for evaluation.

No changes to the abstract will be considered after submission.

Abstracts should contain a maximum of 300 words, and may not include line breaks or pictures.

Poster instructions

Poster sessions will be held at the symposium venue according to the scientific program. Each poster will be identified by a letter (for the session) and a number (for the position).

Poster size: cm. 100 (H) x cm. 70 (W).  The Logistics staff will provide you with double-sided sticky tapes.

Posterboard assignment will be distributed at the registration desk during the registration at the symposium on November 18, 2020.

Short talk instructions

Each oral presentation will last 15 minutes (5-minute discussion included). Each speaker is kindly requested to respect the allocated time of 15 minutes; the Organizers will not accept additional time in order to guarantee the respect of the daily program.

Please bring your presentation on a memory stick (USB) saved with your surname. At your arrival at the Symposium (or during coffee breaks), please leave your presentation with the IT staff or with the Logistic Staff, in order to download it on the symposium room systems, thank you.

Travel grants

Due to the support of our generous sponsors, last year we managed to award more than 40 travel grants to participants. Travel grants cover your registration fee and expenses such as travel/accommodation/poster printing/food of up to 250€. To apply, in addition to your scientific abstract, after the registration you will have to provide us with a brief motivation statement (max. 300 words).

The deadline for the travel grant application is July 15th. Selected participants will be notified in August by email.

Pub talks

An important part of the ENABLE symposium are the outreach activities that will take place. We are organizing pub talks in several pubs across Milan. If you wish to present your research to a general audience in an informal and relaxed environment, we invite you to participate!

A pub talk is a 10-minute talk in a bar for the general public, who don’t have a scientific background. Part of the challenge and fun of this presentation format is to show your research in a way that non-scientists can understand it. If you would like to share your work with the public, you will have to submit a dedicated abstract of maximum 300 words that describe your work in layman’s terms to make sure the public audience can follow.

The talks will be in English and Italian. Don’t be afraid, and enjoy talking science over a beer!

We will make sure to allow as many applicants to present their work as possible but might have to select depending on the number of applicants.

The deadline for pub talk abstracts is September 15th. Selected candidates will be sent an e-mail in October 2020.

Career day

During ENABLE 2020, you will get the chance to participate in workshops and career chats. Workshops feature intense training sessions with a dedicated professional, where you can expand your skillset needed for climbing the academic or industrial career ladder. In career chats, you will have the possibility to discuss career paths with academic and industrial professionals in a small group setting.

During the registration process, we will ask you to select the workshops you are interested in and will then try to allow everybody to attend their preferred workshop. The workshops take place in the morning and afternoon in parallel to the rest of the career program. Thus, it’s possible that you miss part of the alternative program.

External participants

Opportunity fair will be opened also to additional Ph.D. students from the Milan area that wish to attend. We have two slots available: one in the morning and another one in the afternoon, with limited seats.  In this regard you are kindly requested to register online at the link we will announce, to one of the two sessions. The selection will be made on the first-come, first-served basis according to the slot you have chosen.

Food during the event

Lunch and coffee breaks during the event, as well as the conference dinner with the speakers on Thursday, are included in the registration fee.
