Anthony Arie Hyman

Director, Scientific Member, group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics.

Professor of Molecular Cell Biology at Dresden University of Technology.

Awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize and EMBO Gold Medal for his research into microtubules and cell division, Anthony Hyman is also one of the pioneers in the field of biomolecule phase transitions. Currently, the main goal of his lab is to understand liquid-liquid phase separation, a phenomenon underlying diseases related to protein aggregation and membraneless organelles, which are critical elements for correct cell functioning.
